About this client/child: Sam (4) lives in Bushey with his Mum, Dad and dog. Sam is a sweet and chatty boy, who loves building Lego, playing with kinetic sand and with his trains and cars. His favourite movie is Disney’s ‘Cars’ and he especially loves Lightening Mcqueen! He enjoys going to the park to play in the playground as well as the Zoo and generally being out and about. He also loves sensory play. Sam has a diagnosis of Sensory Processing Disorder, and he has some auditory sensitives around isolated sounds, such as a new toy that might make a loud noise. He can find transitions hard, and may become dysregulated during these times, and present with some behavioural challenges. Sam is on the pathway for a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC). He is currently in his reception year at a local Catholic school, and he is not yet attending for the full day.

Overview of role: Sam’s family is looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Nanny/Manny to support him for two days each week, with Tuesdays and Thursdays being the preferred days, though there is some flexibility around this. The Nanny will start at 11:00am, and during this time, they will be at the family home to prepare an evening family meal and set up a play-based activity for Sam’s return from school. Sam will need to be collected from school at 11:45am, which is a 5-minute drive from the family home. He has lunch at home and returns to school at 2:00pm. He will then need to be picked up again at 3:00pm. On Thursdays, Sam attends Occupational Therapy, and the Nanny will have the opportunity to accompany him. This will provide a chance to liaise with his therapist and learn valuable techniques to support him at home. At some point in 2025, Sam’s mum is scheduled for surgery. During her recovery, the position will temporarily transition to full-time hours, Monday to Friday, 11:00am to 7:00pm for 8–12 weeks, to offer extra support for Sam during this period. The family would like the candidate to be mindful around infection control, and this will be even more important after Sam's Mum has had her surgery. The role involves regular domestic tasks related to Sam, such as managing his laundry, bedding, and keeping his bedroom and toys organised. During school holidays, there will be opportunities to engage Sam in fun and enriching activities, such as trips to the woods and zoo, or the cinema or theatre on rainy days. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with Sam and his family, building meaningful connections while supporting his development.

Who this job would suit: This role is ideal for a calm, patient, and empathetic professional with solid experience supporting young children with Autistic Spectrum Condition and behaviors that may challenge. We are seeking someone interested in a long-term, part-time position, who is also available to cover the short-term, full-time hours.

What’s great about this job: Sam is a delightful, vibrant and engaging child, and working with him will be a joy. This role offers a fantastic hourly rate, and great opportunities to work alongside Occupational Therapists.
