About this client/child: Matty, 30, a recent graduate from the Open University (Economics and Maths) lives independently in his family home with the support of his team which consists of a live-in carer and a team of ‘live out’ Support Workers / PAs, providing round-the-clock support. Matty sustained a spinal cord injury and as a result, is quadriplegic, has a ventilator overnight on which he is 100% reliant on, and a tracheostomy. He is an intelligent, calm, and polite gentleman with a positive outlook on life and he is currently planning for his future since completing his degree. He is a hard-core Mix Martial Arts (MMA) fan and travels around the UK to attend events and regularly watches fights on TV. He follows all things UFC. Matty likes down/quiet time and will ask for support if needed. His team supports Matty in how he wishes to live and is there to support his medical and care needs.
Overview of role: Matty can direct you in terms of his care, and depending on what is planned for the day you could be working both in Matty’s home and out in the community. The Live-in Carer works alongside the Lead Support Worker / PA throughout the day, assisting when 2:1 care and support is required, for example, with personal care, manual handling, repositioning, activities of daily living. The Lead Support Worker / PA is specifically trained to manage all aspects of Matty’s complex medical care needs and will direct you when assistance is required. Full training is provided. There is a lot of down time during the shift, typically the live-in carer is required an intervals during the day for example: 8.00am to 11.00am, 3.00pm to 4.00pm, 5.30pm to 7.00pm and then 10.00pm to 11.30pm, therefore this role will suit a *Female Carer either studying, or can use the down time proactively. A waking night carer is on shift with Matty each night, therefore it is highly unlikely that you will be required, except in cases of emergency.
Who this job would suit: A kind, respectful, intuitive and personable Carer keen to learn new skills, and confident working in a team. Excellent communication and organisational skills, essential. This position will suit a person that can see the benefit of not only working with Matty, and learning news skills, but also the flexibility it brings to work on your own personal goals.
What’s great about this job: This is a fabulous role, one that comes highly recommended by Matty’s current team, including Snap Care team members. As employers, Matty and his parents are respectful, friendly, welcoming and professional; and with team members that stay for a long time; it speaks volumes of the positive and supportive working environment they have fostered. Comprehensive training is provided to equip you with the skills and confidence to meet all Matty’s care needs.
