About this client/child: Tom (13) is a happy, bright, and engaging boy, who lives at home with his 2 brothers (13 and 15), Mum, and Dad. All three boys are energetic, bright, and full of life. Tom loves musical theatre, live concerts, books, and films. He also enjoys spending time with his brothers, who are both very much into sports and music. He has an amazing memory and infectious personality. He is fully verbal and very chatty, with a well-developed vocabulary. Tom has diplegic cerebral palsy and dystonia, which impacts both his fine and gross motor skills. He is a full-time wheelchair user and requires full support with all his physical needs, including eating, all personal/hygiene care/dressing, equipment transfers, getting around, and most physical movements such as sitting up or laying down. He has mild learning and speech disabilities, as well as sometimes finding change difficult. Tom attends a specialist secondary school and has various therapeutic interventions at school and at home, such as physiotherapy and hydrotherapy.

Overview of role: This is a full-time role for a SEN Professional Support Worker / SEN Nanny, with Tom as your main focus for all aspects of daily living and care. In the mornings he needs someone to get him ready for and drive him to school. While Tom is at school there are errands, cooking for the whole family, dog walking, laundry, light cleaning, and tidying. After picking Tom up from school, there will be different activities that could vary day-to-day, such as catching up on homework, having physio sessions, going to hydrotherapy, enjoying an outing (e.g., library, bookshop, or museum), etc. At mealtimes, Tom requires help with eating. He can manage finger food but needs help with a fork or a spoon. In the evening before leaving, Tom needs to be showered and dressed for bed. Tom’s brothers are fairly independent, but this role also involves looking out for them as well, such as ensuring they complete their daily homework or driving them to activities. During holiday times, Tom likes to get out and about, so he needs someone proactive to plan day trips, with and without his brothers. The family like to holiday abroad and will occasionally need Tom’s SEN Professional Support Worker / SEN Nanny to join them. The family are offering between £18.00 to £20.00 Gross Per Hour DOE.

Who this job would suit: The ideal candidate for this family will be comfortable working in a lively and busy household, is warm and nurturing, and thrives on being active. Tom has a love for music and films, so having similar interests is important too! This role requires someone who has experience of and is confident in manual handling and supporting children with physical and other additional needs. You will need to be physically fit, proactive and be a confident swimmer. Someone local would be very beneficial. A confident driver with a passport and happy to travel with the family.

What’s great about this job: This is a lively and fun family to work for which offers bespoke training from therapists. There are great transport links to this client’s home, with the choice of 3 train stations nearby. The family are offering a full-time wage, for someone who welcomes putting a very special child at the centre of their day and is willing to muck in and help manage household tasks while he is at school.
