About this client/child: Meet Amy, a vibrant 19-year-old with a cheeky sense of humour. She loves buses, street musicians, swimming, funfairs, meal deal picnics, and chilling with her iPad. Amy has severe learning difficulties, autism, and epilepsy. She may be non-verbal, but she communicates in her own way through expressions, signs, and leading you to what she wants. If you're patient, playful, and energetic, Amy will brighten your day! Amy’s epilepsy is mostly nocturnal, but she may have occasional seizures during the day. She’s physically able, but needs help with personal care, like dressing, showering, and using the toilet. Overall, she’s full of energy and ready to explore the world with you!
Overview of role: As Amy’s Support Worker/Buddy, you’ll be her sidekick on adventures around town. Whether it’s discovering new activities, enjoying outdoor spaces, or taking trips with her family to visit her grandparents for a couple of nights, you’ll play a key role in helping Amy build her independence and social skills. You’ll need to think on your feet, keep Amy safe, and most importantly, make every day fun! You’ll also need to be flexible for occasional longer trips and proxy parenting, up to a week at a time during school holidays. The family offer £20.00 during the weekdays and £22.00 gross per hour during the weekends. The overnight rate when visiting Grandparents is £60.00 Gross per night and £15.00 Gross Per Hour when proxy parenting.
Who this job would suit: Someone who’s energetic, creative, and ready to make a positive impact in Amy’s life. Previous experience working with a young adult with additional needs is a must, but if you don’t have experience with epilepsy, no worries – the family will provide training. What matters most is your enthusiasm, understanding, and willingness to stick around for the long haul (we’re talking at least a couple of years) to build a strong bond with Amy. It is a genuine occupational requirement that the Support Worker / Buddy fits in with the client’s peer group.
What’s great about this job: This is a lovely family who have a great history for forming lasting relationships with previous Support Workers. Amy is lots of fun to be around and will certainly make it a very rewarding role. Join the family for trips to the countryside, and spend quality time with Amy
