About this client/child: We have had the pleasure of working with Ben since he was just a tot; he has recently turned 15 years old! He lives with his Mum, Dad, and siblings in Camberwell. He is a bright, witty, and engaging young man with a great sense of humour! Ben loves being around people, reading books being read to, and visiting art galleries and museums. Ben has Cerebral Palsy and receives his nutrition, fluid, and medication via a PEG. To support his communication, he uses Eye Gaze technology. Ben is a wheelchair user and is dependent on others for all his physical and personal care needs. His house is fully adapted to meet all his needs, and he is supported at home and in school by his team of dedicated support workers and therapists.
Overview of role: On Friday afternoons, you will support Ben with his afterschool routine; he typically arrives home just before 4.30pm, so there is roughly an hour to organise and plan. At the weekends, there is more scope and opportunity to plan fun activities and trips out and about, as well as family activities. Your role will include providing personal care and administering medication, nutrition and fluid via his PEG. Before the end of your shift, a full handover is completed with either Ben's parents or his night carer.
Who this job would suit: This role will suit a confident, energetic, and positive SEN Support Worker. A driver is essential for activities over the weekend - experience driving an adapted vehicle is not essential as Ben's parents will give you guidance/practice.
What’s great about this job: You will be part of a great home care team; some team members have been with Ben for several years. There is excellent person centred training available, and the opportunity to learn new skills with therapy and work alongside highly experienced therapists. Ongoing support and supervision provided by Ben's case management team. This is a great part-time role, and Ben is a joy to support!
