About our client: Tom is 15 years old and lives with his Mum and Dad in their fully adapted home. Tom is a loving and cheeky young man with a love of music, arts and crafts and spending time with his family. Tom has cerebral palsy and complex care and medical needs; he is a wheelchair user and is tube fed. He is reliant on others to meet all his health, care, and medical needs. He uses a communication book and switch along with facial expressions, body language and sounds to support his communication. Tom is now seeking an experienced SEN School Holiday PA to join his care team.
Overview of role: The shift starts at 9.30am (10.30am at weekends) and following a handover from Tom’s Mum you will create fun, educational and engaging activities with Tom. He likes music and movement, switches, sensory play, his foot spa, watching movies and stories. He also enjoys long walks in his all-terrain power chair. Due to his complex needs, Tom requires help with tube feeding, his physiotherapy programme, hydrotherapy (in his own pool) and personal care. Experience of these would be an advantage. This role offers 2 to 3 days per week during school holidays, 9.30am - 4.30pm and occasional Saturdays if desired. The family welcome someone who would like to travel to Devon (for one week) during the Summer to support Tom whilst he is on his family holiday. The family will be going on holiday abroad next year. As Tom grows, the team is expanding to provide 2:1 support.
Who this job would suit: An enthusiastic, energetic and confident individual with a passion for supporting and caring for others. Imaginative and able to take own initiative. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone perhaps working in a support team or in a SEN setting who is seeking a part-time role during school holidays. For this role, you must be a driver, with a car and able to drive the family WAV for days out. Someone discreet and respectful who maintains confidentiality and who sets clear professional boundaries. You will work alongside another team member or Tom’s parents who are instrumental in their son’s care.
What’s great about this job: Tom is a pleasure to work with and support, he is a real character and captures everyone’s heart! A great position to keep you busy during the school holidays, earn some extra income and enable Tom experience and enjoy new activities both in the home and on excursions. You will be part of a dedicated Care Team, receive excellent training and ongoing supervision. Opportunity to accompany the family on holidays in the UK and abroad.
