About this client/child: Ethan aged 6 is an affectionate little boy with a wonderful sense of humor. He is starting to enjoy engaging with activities such as puzzles, water play and mark-making. He loves football and spending time outdoors. His brother Harry, aged 8, is a very protective older brother who enjoys art, baking and listening to audio books. Ethan has a rare genetic diagnosis of ARID1B-RD and ASC. He has little awareness of danger and needs help with all aspects of daily life. He is non-verbal but communicates well using visual timetables and his communication book. He is also very expressive depending on his mood and will pull you towards objects he wants. Ethan is still undergoing toilet training and with guidance he is using the toilet more when at home.

Overview of role: We are looking for an SEN Nanny / Manny to assist and support Ethan and Harry before and after school. Ethan is collected and dropped home by the school bus and Harry’s school is a short 15-minute walk away. During term time you will either walk Harry to school or stay with Ethan to get him on the bus while one of the parents takes Harry. During the day whilst the boys are at school, part of your role will be to carry out some light housekeeping duties mainly related to the children – e.g. laundry, organising the boys rooms and food preparation – and some for the family e.g. family laundry, veg prep etc. You will collect Harry from school at 3:20 pm and be home in time for Ethan’s arrival off the school bus at 4:00pm. Once home, the boys do enjoy spending time together but as Harry is getting older, he also enjoys his own space so this needs to be managed to ensure his needs are being met too. The key focus when interacting with Ethan is encouraging his independence and self-care skills, such as using a fork to eat with or modelling how to undo buttons. During the school holidays there is more time and opportunity to be imaginative at home or explore activities further afield – e.g. messy play, soft play or the zoo with Ethan or baking and art at home with Harry. Part of the role in the holidays will be taking and collecting Ethan or Harry from any clubs or activities (via taxi for a non-driver) and engaging in activities with them while they are at home. In mum’s eyes, the messier the house is at the end of the day in the holidays the better as this is a sign that the boys have had fun and have been creative. The hourly rate being offered is between £22.00 to £24.00 Gross per hour DOE.

Who this job would suit: This would be a fantastic opportunity for an SEN Nanny / Manny with at least 18 months experience working with children with ASC in a sole charge capacity and who are confident communicating with children who are non-verbal. Personality wise we are looking for candidates who are nurturing, bubbly, fun but equally someone who can also set and maintain boundaries.

What’s great about this job: You will be joining a very warm, down-to-earth, loving family. They have had the same Nanny working with them since Harry was 9 months old; she had reduced her hours to 3 days a week when Ethan started school. The mother has just gone back to work full time and the current Nanny does not want more hours hence their search. This is a family who will genuinely value your input and welcome you as part of their family. There will also be the opportunity to play more of an active role in Ethan’s cognitive development therapy if this is of interest.

Who is recruiting for this role? Snap Care will be carrying out all recruitment including shortlisting, recruiter interviews and arranging employer interviews.
