About this client/child: Charlie, 30, is a sociable and affectionate young man who thrives on companionship. He loves swimming, horses, fun fairs, the circus, and sensory play. Diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome, Charlie experiences speech and learning difficulties, but he is highly expressive through facial expressions—making it clear when he enjoys (or dislikes!) something. While he primarily uses a wheelchair, he can walk very short distances with support. He is fully dependent on others for his care needs and requires 2:1 support when out in the community, meaning you’ll always work alongside another team member. Though Charlie may occasionally become upset; those who know him well can easily recognise the signs and provide the right support to help him feel at ease.

Overview of role: Charlie lives in supported living and has a fantastic team around him. We are looking for an SEN Support Worker/Buddy to provide companionship and empowerment support rather than a traditional carer approach. This role is about having fun, spending quality time with Charlie, researching new activities and encouraging his independence. You’ll accompany him to preplanned activities and explore new opportunities together. Throughout the day, the focus will be on promoting Charlie’s independence, particularly with self-care tasks such as feeding and mobility. He requires full support with personal care, including regular toilet breaks and assistance with eating and drinking. The set hours for the two days are 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, though some flexibility is required and offered—for example, readjusting for occasional evening outings like theatre trips, or picking up additional hours if desired.

Who this job would suit: We are looking for a Support Worker / Buddy who is confident working with an adult with learning disabilities and happy to work within a team. Someone who can bring their own personality and interests to the role would be great. Candidates who are proactive, considerate, sociable and energetic will be well suited to this role.

What’s great about this job: This is a lovely opportunity to build a long-lasting relationship with Charlie whilst upskilling yourself and playing an active role in all his activities. During outings, all your refreshments and meals will be paid for. Charlie’s mum will assist you with full training when you first start.

Who is recruiting for this role? Snap Care will be carrying out all recruitment including shortlisting, recruiter interviews and arranging employer interviews. Please note, unfortunately, we are unable to provide sponsorship for any of our vacancies.
