About this client: Teddy is turning 10 years old soon. He lives at home with his Mum, Dad and sister in his new fully adapted home in Bromley which includes ceiling track hoists, a therapy room and swimming pool! Teddy is  bright young boy, with a great sense of humour, and the ability to wrap anyone around his little finger! Teddy has Cerebral Palsy and epilepsy, he is a full-time wheelchair user and communicates via a communication aid, body language, sounds and expressions. He loves spending time outdoors or playing games like ‘eye spy’ and watching movies. He strives for his independence and needs his Support Workers and Waking Night Carers to promote his independence and decision making.  Teddy requires 1:1, and at times 2:1 support with all aspects of daily living. He has a Team Leader, and Snap Care is assisting his Case Manager to recruit a waking night care team.

Overview of role: Moving to the new house, having a new bedroom, and a Waking Night care team is a big transition for Teddy. There has been a lot of change, the main one being that his Waking Night Carer’s will be leading his night routine instead of his parents. The focus of this role is to encourage a good sleep hygiene routine, and consistency is key. The Waking Night Carer will follow a detailed plan provided by Teddy’s Clinical Psychologist, with the overall aim that Teddy will be able to sleep through most nights. The Waking Night Carer will work alongside his day Support Worker and continue the bedtime routine with Teddy being in bed settled, and asleep by 9.00pm. Teddy requires monitoring via a video monitor through-out the night, and will regularly require reassurance and comfort initially, however, his therapy team and psychologist are confident that following the programme and routine will result is a positive outcome and Teddy will develop a healthy sleep routine.

Who this job would suit: An experienced, professional and dedicated Waking Night Carer with previous experience of managing sleep hygiene. You must be an excellent communicator, confident writing nightly reports and updating care notes. Set shifts are not available, you must have full availability and flexibility to commit to a rolling rota.

What’s great about this job: This is a very exciting time for Teddy, and although there is lots of change; it is all very positive and going to make a real difference to his day-to-day life. He is a real charmer, and a joy to spend time with. There is ongoing support, supervision provided by Teddy’s Team Leader and Case Manager, and the opportunity to upskill in many areas with ongoing training.
