Create a Great CV!

Your CV is your opportunity to sell yourself, to ensure all the great experience you have is set out in a way that is easy to understand and tells your story.

To make sure your CV is as good as it can you may wish to look at or use our CV Template.

Tips for a great CV using our Snap CV Template:

  • Overwrite our suggestions, delete the things that are not appropriate, save as: Full name CV
  • Include all your jobs – give brief details for non-related jobs, and full details for relevant positions.
  • No gaps – make sure all gaps in employment dates are accounted for – if travelling, seeking work, raising own children etc.
  • Include start and finish months as well as years of all jobs
  • Make sure jobs are listed chronologically (most recent first and work backwards)
  • Ensure your grammar is still correct, are your previous jobs still written in the present tense?
  • For confidentiality, do not include client names. Simply state the general location of the job, e.g. private client, London SW3.
  • Don't add reference details on your CV
  • Don't add wage details of previous jobs on your CV
  • Don’t use fancy, tiny or coloured text, it looks unprofessional and is difficult to read!
  • Don’t be afraid to go onto more than one or two pages – your CV will be sent to clients who are looking to read all about you, not to skim over
  • Use your CV to sell yourself! Include all your experience, this can also include having grown up with a disabled sibling or voluntary work, it’s all great experience!
  • Avoid using terms such as ‘kids’. The word 'children' is more professional.
  • Use the correct terminology – For example, don't define an individual by their disability: e.g. A man with Down’s syndrome, not a Down’s man.
  • Avoid negative phrases such as ‘suffered from’. E.g. I cared for a child who has cerebral palsy, not I cared for a child who suffered from cerebral palsy.
  • Be positive: I had the opportunity to carry out his daily physiotherapy rather than: I had to do his physiotherapy every day.
  • Explain what you did in relevant jobs and most importantly how that helped the child, family or client. Include goals met and achievements.
